Abarth 500

For such a small car there’s a lot of attention and fuss being given to the 500 Abarth So why all the fuss for what essentially looks like a Fiat 500 with a red stripe and some flash alloy wheels? Well, for one thing it’s more than that: it’s supercar like performance wrapped in a super-mini’s funky little body.

Fiat’s new 500 has been one of the more unique looking super-minis on the road since the Italian manufacturer resurrected the model number in 2007. With its quirky, cute and fun styling it won a league of devoted followers. As if to capitalise on the 500′s popularity with the younger market, Fiat will be unleashing the new 500 Abarth into a hungry market in 2009.

There will be only 1,500 of the Abarth 500s on available in the UK and they’re likely to be snapped up no sooner than their wheels have touched dealer forecourts, so why all the fuss? How can what’s essentially a jumped-up student’s car get a standing ovation at the Goodwood Festival of Speed while running along with Astons and Maseratis?

Well, it’s far more than a jumped-up students car. Sure, from the outside the Abarth 500 looks near-identical to the standard Fiat 500, albeit one with an odd yet strangely appealing paint job. The real difference lies under that bonnet with the Abarth scorpion painted on it almost as a warning. The standard Fiat 500 will kick out 69bhp, the Abarth offers 135bhp and straps it to an equally beefed-up chassis so that the ride is thrilling and controlled rather than a terrifying ordeal in a tin can.

The Abarth 500′s improved chassis is matched with steering that betters the original’s, softer rear springs and heightened grip. Then there’s a ‘Sport’ button that sharpens it up even further and gives endless amounts of driver delight.

With its Alfa Romeo gear box and clutch stolen from its big-brother Punto, the Abarth 500 is capable of powerful statistics, a max speed of 127mph and 0-60 in 7.9 seconds. Ok, so these aren’t supercar stats but when you consider that you’ll be attaining these figures in something so small and tight it’s like a go-cart with a jet engine, you begin to see why the smiles are so large. Not only that, but it retains the original 500′s practicality.

You can trek the Abarth 500 around town and expect just a little over 33mpg. Its heightened steering and handling prowess means it’s even more of a doddle to park and when the lights go green and the traffic clears, it’s going to pull away a damn-site faster than most over cars there too while managing to grab a few smiles from onlookers as it is, still, a cute little motor.

What Abarth have done with the 500 is a take a car that’s considered cute and cuddly and given it a powerful bark while somehow retaining all its original charms, all for a little over 13k. A huge feat and that’s why the Abarth 500 is proving such a desirable car.

When you got that vintage Firebird, you probably never thought about the auto parts that you will need for it. These are important things that you need to know about these auto parts and where to get them.

When you start looking for parts for your Firebird, you may have to go to places that are not as common as you would look for any other parts. These are the Junk yards and farmer fields in the area. You can find a lot of auto parts in a field if you are willing to look for them and climb though them.

Going to a farmer for your Auto parts are not always the best things and the best talk to have with these people. Many collected the cars for their own purposes and are not so ready to give them up. You may also encounter a person that has a sentimental value on the auto parts and the cars in his field. You can get them to sell it to you if you are willing to work with them and give them a decent amount of money for their vehicle.

You can look at vintage auto parts suppliers too. These people will be more then willing to help you find the right parts for your auto parts needs and may even make a part just for you and your vehicle in the end. They also may be able to point you in the right direction so that you can find the auto parts that you may need and at a price that you can afford. This can be hard to do if the auto part is especially hard to find any where else.

Take the time to find the good auto parts for your firebird because if you don’t you may have a really hard time getting them later. You can always look in the places that seem like they should be odd limits to you. It’s risky but it will help you in the long run to find the auto parts that you may need for your firebird. You can also buy a car that doesn’t run, but you are able to take parts off of so that you can keep any parts that may seem hard to find. You should make sure that you have a place to put the other car though. That way you won’t get into trouble.

Europe’s much-awaited fuel-efficient small hatch, the Corsa OPC from General Motors’ Opel European brand will roll out in markets across the continent anytime this month. The Opel Corsa OPC made its world debut at the 77th annual Geneva International Motor Show early this March and dubbed as the “most powerful Corsa ever”. Why? Because it is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbo engine capable of pumping out 192 horsepower (141 kW) and produces 169 pound-feet (230 Nm) amount of peak torque, combine with a six-speed manual gearbox powering its front wheels. Acceleration from zero to 62 mph can be achieved in 7.2 seconds with an electronically controlled top speed of 139 mph. Upgrading with GM power programmer can boost the Corsa OPC’s performance.

General Motors Corp. has a very high expectation for this vehicle in terms of sales due to the rapidly growing consumer demands for fuel-efficient small cars in Europe and in the United States. Does it mean that General Motors would also bring the Corsa OPC to U.S. showrooms?

No. According to a report from the San Francisco online (www.sfgate.com), General Motors’ Opel division will not bring the Corsa OPC in the U.S. anytime soon. This is because of some economic factors like the different range of gas prices in Europe and United States. In an interview with Robert Lutz, Vice Chairman for Global Product Development of General Motors Corporation, he said: “Europe and the United States are two different worlds. We could sell the OPC here (Europe) and make money because gasoline is near $6 a gallon. If we had $6 gasoline in the United States, we could sell it there at a profit, too.”

“But it is unlikely that Americans would buy a little car at $30,000 when they are paying $2.50 for gasoline. We need $6 gasoline in the United States to make sense of the Corsa OPC in that market.” he added.

Lutz was also asked if they will bring the other GM branded European fuel efficient models in the US. and said: “We also sell many fuel-efficient models in America. But the mix of smaller, more fuel-efficient models is bigger in Europe than it is in the United States. We need gasoline of 6 bucks a gallon to change that equation in America. If America really wants more fuel-efficient cars, which will mean more smaller models, it’s up to the government to establish parameters in which that market will work.”

GM’s decision is final and Americans will not be able to see the Opel Corsa OPC to arrive in dealer showrooms.
